Kingston, JAM: Back to back sprint relay world level gold medalist, Michael Frater, in looking back on Jamaica’s Olympics and World Championships triumphs thinks that his native country will maintain their dominance over arch rivals, USA.
The victories came with a world record in Beijing and the next world best in Berlin. However, Frater does not think that Jamaica have yet done what is their best possible time and puts in down to not enough relay practice.
In a recent interview on local radio the 2005 Helsinki WC 100m silver medalist said ”We still have a long way to go as honestly I don’t think we have done enough practice and I think the organisation and the coaches have to come to some agreement so we can get enough practice as I think we could have run 36 from the Olympics and somewhat close to that at the World Championships.
“We have done some practice but I think there is still a lot of room for improvement”.
Asked about what time Jamaica could run if given the required practice, he continued ”I think with the talent we have in Jamaica now we should be able to run about 36.7”.
On the matter of the USA making it to a final and competing to get back at Jamaica, the Trelawny-born athlete said ”all things being equal and the way things are right now I dont think they can beat us as long as we stay healthy and get in some practice it will be very very difficult for them to beat us”.
